One of the most important missions of the Museo delle Culture is the conservation of its collections.  However, the concept of conservation and the respective operating strategies have rapidly been changing during the last decades. The museum is increasingly becoming a complex reality, that requires various highly integrated professionals. In addition, the Cultural Center (“Polo Culturale”) project demands a structure that may possibly ensure the preservation and restoration of different kinds of works (ethnographic, artistic, historical-scientific, and archival works), as well as a qualified support team for thel modern requirements of an exhibition and the valorisation of cultural heritage. In agreement with the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, the Laboratory for Conservation and Exhibition Planning was founded as a structure that is able to develop an articulated approach towards the main themes of conservation and exhibition of cultural heritage. This is based on the use of multidisciplinary scientific methods, involving the different professionals from the museum.
